TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Rick Owen SUBJECT: Approval of Support Document for CCNWFL Homeless Prevention Activities DEPARTMENT: County Administrator BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida requests approval for continued provision of homeless prevention activities. BACKGROUND: Catholic Charities carries out the social mission of the Catholic Church in Northwest Florida to serve, empower and advocate for vulnerable families and individuals of any race, religion or national origin. Specific to homeless prevention activities, The Catholic Charities Food Pantry has been serving Okaloosa and parts of Walton and Santa Rosa Counties for the past eleven (11) years. The Food Pantry is sustained both by local donors, the bay Area Food bank and the Florida USDA and is currently distributing approximately 18,000 pounds of food each month and over 250,000 pounds of food annually. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations require non-profit organizations to receive certification of local government approval prior to accepting an Emergency Solutions Grant award. This approval signifies the knowledge of the referenced program operating in the local government jurisdiction. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve letter for the Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida organization so that it may continue to receive grant funding. BACKGROUND: The work to ready the former Shalimar Annex site for the construction of a new 63,000 + s.f. building is moving along at a very quick pace. The asbestos abatement activities are nearly complete and the demolition of the existing structures will begin very soon. After the site work and building foundation are prepared, the building's structure will begin to go vertical. To do that, the structural steel package needs to be on site and ready to erect. Structural steel, like a number of other elements of a large building, must be ordered well in advance of the day when it will be needed. These elements are in the critical path for the completion of the project. The amount of funding requested (up to $1,500,000) for the steel is an estimate. Steel is a commodity and the price will only be fixed when an order is placed. The steel must be ordered right away to be on site when needed. Any delay in ordering or receiving the steel may result in the building not being ready for occupancy prior to the expiration of the Uptown Station lease. RECOMMENDATIONS: Requests BCC approval of funding in an amount up to $1,500,000 for the Steel Package for the new Okaloosa County Administration Building. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: Ernie Padgett, County Administrator Packet Pg. 208 Packet Pg. 209 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: June 17, 2014 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Elliot Kampert SUBJECT: FTA DBE Program Goal DEPARTMENT: Growth Management BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Department of Growth Management requests the Board to approve the revision Federal Transit Administration required Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program Goals.
