CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA
MEMORANDUM
DATE: October 30, 2007
TO: Joyce Shanahan, City Manager
FROM: David J enzen, IT Director
SUBJECT: Verizon Wireless Data Services Contract Renewal
BACKGROUND
In June of 1999 the City of Fort Walton Beach Police Department went live with in- car

2001 Wireless One became a part of AT&T Wireless. Early in 2004 we migrated from
CDPD to the AT&T EDGE System of General Packet Radio Service ( GPRS) which has a
much faster transmission rate. In 2005 AT& T Wireless became a part of Cingular Wireless
and we continued using the EDGE System ( GPRS). In October of 2005 we migrated from
Cingular Wireless to Verizon Wireless using lxRTT which is a 3G wireless technology based
r on CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access).
The Verizon Wireless data services are available under state contract number 725- 330- 05- 01
