The East Pass, which connects the Choctawhatchee Bay with the Gulf of Mexico, is a critical navigational channel not only for the City, but the entire community by providing safe passage for recreational, sport, and tourist watercraft as well as being the sole link between Eglin Air Force Base and the United States Coast Guard Station- Destin to the Gulf. Further, proper and protected access contributes significantly to the economic vitality of the area by the Destin Charter Fishing Fleet, a major industry contributor in Northwest Florida.
