Requests must be received at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting in order to allow the City time to provide requested service.  f City of Fort Walton Beach )! i1metitR~ J;ITqdt J6tntt/iful J6tntbtd MlrnO: OCL}l: .} N WHEREAS, the Fort Walton Beach Dog Daze Festival was established in 2000 as a not-for-profit community event to promote all aspects of responsible dog ownership, and to provide an opportunity for all local dog groups to share their information and resources to the community; and WHEREAS, the Fort Walton Beach Dog Daze Festival has now teamed its event with the American Kennel Club' s " Responsible Dog Ownership Day" program through their programs which include AKC Canine Good Citizen testing, which certifies and rewards dogs with good manners at home and in the community, and AKC Companion Animal recovery, a database of more than 2 million pets who have been permanently identified with a tattoo or microchips, as well as providing educational tools to the general public year round; and WHEREAS, the AKC has established their "AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day" on September 15, 2007, recognizing and promoting all aspects of responsible dog ownership including safety with children, obedience training, spaying/ neutering, licensing, leashing, and exercise; and WHEREAS, more than400 AKC- affiliated clubs and other animal related organizations across the country have committed to educating the public about responsible dog ownership through local events and demonstrations. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Anderson, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Fort Walton Beach, do hereby proclaim September 29, 2007, as FORT WALTON BEACH DOG DAZE & AKC RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP DAY" in the City of Fort Walton Beach, because every dog deserves a responsible, educated, and respectful family. Mitchell, Jr. has honorably served the City of Fort Walton Beach since January 2, 1990 in several capacities, as a Planner, and Planning Zoning Director, Community Development Services Director and finally as Planning Manager, Long Range in the Community Development Services Department; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell' s 17 dedicated years of service and his outstanding performance are well characterized by descriptions such as dedica~ed, knowledgeable and willing to go the distance to do a job well done; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell has been very instrumental in developing and implementing the Comprehensive Plan, Vision Plan and finally ensuring that the Land Development Code update was performed to expectations of the public and Municipal Planning Board; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell' s courteous attitude in dealing with the public and with questions that would arise regarding development, long range planning and annexation and patiently explaining how to get projects accomplished successfully; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell' s vast knowledge of the history of Fort Walton Beach, how it has evolved as a City, and the background of the founding families, will be missed. sorely WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell will officially retire from the City on September 28, 2007 after 17 years and 8 months of dedicated service.
