BACKGROUND: At its November 6th, 2012 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners authorized the formation the Shalimar Annex Renovation Project Task Force. The purpose for the Task Force is to recommend to the BCC the operations that should be located at the Shalimar annex and a space allocation plan for those operations. In addition, the Task Force may recommend where to relocate the operations that must be removed from the annex and those currently in other leased spaces in the south end of the county. The Task Force may make other recommendations associated with the elimination of leased space, as it deems appropriate. The Task Force is composed of representatives from the BCC, all constitutional offices, judicial, court administration, State Attorney, Public Defender, and other stakeholders in the outcome of the renovation of the Shalimar annex. The Task Force held its first meeting on Friday, November 30, 2012 (minutes attached). There have been several subsequent meetings to discuss and refine the progress of the space allocation scheme and the schematic designs for the project. The BCC contracted with Lord & Son for design-build services for the renovation of the Shalimar annex. DAG Architects Inc has been providing design services for the project on behalf of Lord & Son. Phase I design services were limited to those activities necessary to produce a schematic design for the project. The schematic design options that came out of that effort are being presented by DAG at this meeting today (PowerPoint presentation attached). The Task Force members are meeting on Friday, March 15, 2013, and their formal recommendations will be provided shortly thereafter for the Board's consideration at this regularly scheduled meeting.
