Mr. Dowd the County' s attorney has the detailed information on the genesis of the current formula. o 0 The anticipated revenue from one cent of local option gas tax is $ 980,000 per year. The 6a cent ofthe gas tax must be distributed according to the updated formula or through an K v+ Irnerloeal Agreement. The 90 cent does not have to be distributed to the municipalities. o There has been some discussion of the SCETS tax increase related to the increase in the c County' s gas taxes. This has generated questions about this taxes distribution The E Florxla Department ofTransportation Office of Management and Budget has a v publication titled Florida' s Transportation Tax Sources a Primer which discusses the a various gas taxes. The rate of tax on gasoline varies by county and was initially sit at m two -thirds of the total optional fuel tax rate that existed in each county, not to exceed 4centstgallon. The SCETS tax on diesel fuel was imposed on diesel W at a standard v rate of 1 ttMgallon in every county, and increased at the rate of one additional cent per w a gatlon each year until it equaled the maximum SCETS tax on gasoline, regardless of the 12 prevailing rate ofoptional taxes. The SCETS Me for both gasoline and diesel in each county is adjusted proportionate to the growth of the Consumer Price Index during the ry previous applicable 12 month period and the revised rates apply for the entire calendar year. Increasing the local option gas tax on gasoline from 5 cents to 6 cams will result in an increase of the SCETS tax available for DOT District 3 to appropriate for projects within Olealoosa County. The SCETS tax on gas and gasohol ranges from 4.6 Lots to a 5. 6 tends per gallon. The SCETS tax on diesel is 5. 6 cents per gallon.
