Regular Meeting Minutes August 27, 2013
Sabo Williams, Fort Walton Beach, advised the Healthy Start is a valuable program that provides
various high quality services for at -risk mothers. Mr. Williams advised no monetary support is
being requested; only support of the program in Okaloosa County.
Discussion ensued as to the reasons the program is being terminated. The City Manager
informed he did not have all the details but he did invite representatives from the Health
Department to the meeting, and a letter was distributed to Council from the Health Department.
Barry Gray, 217 Barnette, reported the Health Department is soliciting RFP's to perform the
services and what is being requested is a letter of support to keep the services within the health
department. Mr. Gray noted seven health department employees work in the program and if it is
outsourced these employees would be out of a job. He noted they serve their clients and are
dedicated to what they do.
Council discussion included the issue be postponed in order to obtain more information
including the reasons for terminating the program.
Ms. Jamieson moved to postpone the issue of supporting the Okaloosa County Healthy
Start program until the meeting of September 10, 2013. Dr. gossom seconded motion and it
carried unanimously.
