BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: August 5, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: John Hofstad
SUBJECT: Lake Lorraine Drainage Repairs
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
BCC DISTRICT: 2
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: [PW] The Public Works Department is seeking approval for
drainage pipe replacements for the Lake Lorraine stormwater system in Shalimar.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: The Public Works - Roads Division has developed a project
to make major pipe replacements for the Lake Lorraine Stormwater System.
This system has had numerous failures in many locations over the years. Staff have worked to
conduct spot repairs and keep the system functioning to the extent possible but the system has
failed beyond maintenance or reasonable repair in some locations. The replacement of these
pipes will alleviate the structural concerns that exist within the system and prevent the frequently
occurring depressions in resident's yards.
The Roads Division will utilize our Bridge Construction Crew to conduct the replacements over
a period of months. Materials estimates for the work are approximately $250,000. A
combination of Stormwater and Local Option Gas Tax (LOGT) Budget funding will be utilized
to purchase materials for the pipe replacements.
OPTIONS: Approve/Deny project moving forward during the current fiscal year.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approving of the project along with the purchase of
materials using a combination of funding from Stormwater 1004-563490 and LOGT 3202-
546648.
