BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: December 1, 2015
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Paul Lawson
SUBJECT: 2015-2016 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) County Grant
DEPARTMENT: Public Safety
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Approve the FY 2015-2016 EMS County Grant application in the
amount of $31,206.00 for improvement and enhancement of Emergency Medical Services within
Okaloosa County. There is no match required for this grant.
BACKGROUND: Emergency Medical Services are essential to the health of all Florida’s
residents and visitors; therefore, the Florida Legislature and Governor authorized counties to
collect a surcharge on the fines for various traffic offenses to pay for the improvement and
expansion of emergency medical services in Florida. The counties forward the funds for deposit
into the State EMS Trust Fund, which is the sole source of funding for all of the State EMS grant
programs. The funds received through the grant program will be utilized to purchase an ATV,
10 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), EMS training equipment, and Vivid Trac airway
cameras.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove.
