PUBLIC SAFETY - INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH OKALOOSA TISLAND FIRE

Mr. Dino Villani, Public Safety Director, stated in 1993 the
Board took action to pay the Okaloosa Island Fire District for
fire protection services provided to the properties owned by the
county, including the Boardwalk and, most recently, the
Convention Center because these properties are exempt from the
usual fire assessment fees. The State Auditor General noted
this agreement was never memorialized in written form. Mr.
Villani said the proposed document is presented to the Board for
consideration to formalize the agreement in writing.
Mr. Goodwin said this seems a bid outside the norm and asked if
there are other interlocal agreements with fire districts to
serve other county properties. Mr. Villani replied the county
does have MOUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with other fire
districts but no agreements. He reiterated this was a Board
policy set in 1993.
Chief Tilley, Okaloosa Island Fire District, gave a brief
history of the payments to the district. He noted they are a
very small fire district.
