d +0 READING b~ 1st 2nd ORDINANCE 1772 P ~. o1 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA; AMENDING SECTION 16. 2, SIGN CODE, OF THE 125.. LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE, TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF MONUMENT SIGNS ALLOWED FOR CERTAIN MULTI- TENANT CENTERS; AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA: Section I. Authority & Intent a. This ordinance is enacted pursuant to the powers for the City of Fort Walton Beach, section 2 of the City Charter, and section 166. 021( 1), Florida Statutes ( 2007). b. On December 4, 2008, the Municipal Planning Board reviewed the application of Jay Odom, owner of Crystal Beach Development, to amend the City' s Sign Code, and recommended approval of the application. On January ,13, 2008, and January 27, 2008, the City Council reviewed and approved the application. c. The City Council finds that the requested amendment of the Land Development Code is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan and improves the City' s regulation of signage. Section 2. Amendment of Section 16. 125. 2 Specific Uses, Multi- Tenant Center, of the Land Development Code Section 16. 125. 2, Specific Uses, Multi- Tenant Centers, of the Land Development Code, is amended as follows: 16. 125.2. Multi- Tenant Centers In addition to the signage permitted by section 16. 124 and the reauirements of Table 16- 7, multi- tenant centers shall be permitted additional signage as follows: A. Directional & tenant index signs For the safe movement of vehicles and to assist patrons in locating businesses within a multi-tenant center, on- premises directional and tenant index signs are permitted as part of a coordinated sign plan. The signs shall be limited to ten square feet in area, and shall not exceed six feet in height. Directional and tenant index signs shall be set back a minimum of 10 feet from any front property line. B. Pennants Limited to six square feet in area each or less, may be permitted as part of a sign plan for a multi- tenant center. The pennants shall be attached to freestanding poles or freestanding light fixtures, and shall be utilized as a coordinated decorative scheme for a multi- tenant center. Section 3. Amendment of Table 16- 7 The City Attorney, City Clerk, and codifier are hereby authorized to amend Table 16- 7 if it is necessary to reflect the provisions of this ordinance. Section 4. Conflicting Provisions In the event any part of an ordinance or parts of ordinances are in conflict with this ordinance herewith, the provisions of this Ordinance herein shall prevail. Section 5. Effective Date This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon approval by the City Council.
