Tourist Development Council Selection Committee Recommendations Mr. Greg Stewart, TDD Attorney, noted there were four applicants for this position: Martin Owen, Jack Pous, Toni Richardson, and Jeremy Skinner. Mr. Stewart reminded everyone that in order to be on the Tourist Development Council, a member has to be an elector of Okaloosa County. Mr. Skinner is disqualified because he resides in Walton County. Ms. Richardson is not registered, but began the process and may be considered, assuming there is final verification of registering by the time she would be asked to fulfill the position. Mr. Stewart instructed the Selection Committee members to submit their recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners from the list of three qualified applicants previously mentioned and listed on the ranking sheet, sign and date. Mr. Peterson asked Mr. Schroeder to give the Final Tally Sheet and the Ranking Sheets to the Clerk for record keeping. I. Date: Date: Okaloosa County Tourist Development Department Page 2 0f2 June 16, 2014 OKALOOSA COUNTY TOURIST DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP SELECTION PROCESS Pursuant to the criteria enumerated in Section 125.0104(4)(e), Florida Statutes, and Section A.500 of the Tourist Development Operations & Procedures Manual, the Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) shall appoint qualified members to serve on the Tourist Development Council (“Council”) of which three members shall be elected officials (one member from the Board and two elected municipal officials). The remaining six members shall be qualified individuals from the community. The following is a recommended selection process for the six non-elected seats: 1. Upon Board approval of the process, notice shall be posted on the County’s website seeking qualified individuals interested in serving on the Council who meet the following criteria: a. Registered voter in Okaloosa County; and b. Has not previously served on the Council for a full term (4 years); and c. Is either: i. An owner or operator of a motel, hotel, recreational vehicle park, or other tourist accommodation in Okaloosa County and are subject to the tourist development tax; or ii. An individual that is involved in the tourist industry and who has demonstrated an interest in tourist development, but does not own or operate a motel, hotel, recreational vehicle park, or other tourist accommodation in Okaloosa County that is subject to the tourist development tax. 2. Individuals meeting the above requirements that are interested in serving on the Council shall submit a resume and completed application (“Application Package”) to the Tourist Development Director no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 30, 2014. 3. The Board of County Commissioners shall appoint a selection committee to review the Application Packages. a. The selection committee shall be comprised of a Commissioner, TDD Director and Chairman of the TDC. 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) 9) b. The selection committee shall be subject to Chapters 119 and 286, Florida Statutes. Selection committee meetings shall be duly noticed, open to the public and minutes of the meeting shall be taken. c. The selection committee shall meet and review the Application Packages and recommend appointment of Council members (see “TDC Membership and Terms” below). d. The selection committee’s recommendations will be presented to the Board for final approval. As you know, | am the Regional Marketing Director for ResortQuest by W yndham Vacation Rentals, and as such have deep and strong concern for the successful operation of Tourist Development in Okaloosa County. I think that ResortQuest are probably the largest single generator of bed tax in the county, and therefore have a vested interest in the county’s success. On a personal note, I have been in the travel and tourism industry for over 40 years, in the USA, Europe and Australia and have covered a wide range of disciplines from vacation rentals, hotels, tour operating, travel agency services, airlines and travel technology. I have been responsible for marketing, sales and operations with a range of companies of different sizes. I hold a Fellowship of the (UK based) Institute of Travel and Tourism, and am also a Fellow of the Institute of Directors. I have the honor of being the Tourism Industry Representative on the Okaloosa RESTOR Advisory Committee, having been appointed to that body by the Board of County Commissioners last year. I sit on the Marketing Council of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association and was Chair of this council in 2013. I have also served on the VisitFlorida Marketing and Internet Committee. Locally, I have served on the Board of the Greater Fort W alton Beach Chamber of Commerce and was Chair in 2012. I also was on the
