MARY’S COUNCIL, No. 4444 PO BOX 448 Fort Walton Beach, FL 32549 Okaloosa County Commissioners, ATTN: Cathy As you may know, since 1975 the Knights of Columbus has spearheaded a yearly national drive to raise funds to support our local “CITIZENS WITH DISABILITIES” program. This dive is more commonly known as the “TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE” because we give away free tootsie rolls to encourage donations at major traffic stops and grocery stores. This year we will conduct our drive on September 26th and 27th, and October 4th. We will use October 10th, and 11th, and 18th as our alternate rain dates. One Hundred percent of the money collected by our council in Okaloosa County (minus expenses for tootsie rolls and insurance) stays in our local area. We distribute all the funds to local charities such as, Special Olympics, Horizon Inc., Pyramid inc. and Ft. Walton Beach Development Center. These charities have a professional reputation that is widely recognized throughout the country. Air Force families have been known to receive transfers to get the benefits of these local services for their children. Our council has been the #1 collector of funds in the State of Florida in twelve of the years since 1975, including 3 of the last 4 years. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have been able to collect well over $56,000.00 thus far. We have a state wide $1,000,000.00 insurance policy against injuries and property damage. Volunteers will be wearing distinguishing yellow and orange aprons while they are soliciting and will perform their duties professionally, trying never to impede traffic and always being polite. To ensure our safety all of our volunteers will be involved in the safety training program taught by Shane Stewart of the Okaloosa Island Fire Department. Our shifts on the dates listed above will be 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. If you would allow our volunteers to solicit funds during the above mentioned dates and times, the Knights of Columbus, the Citizens with Disabilities, and our local community will be most grateful. We are also seeking the approval of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s department and the City of Mary Esther. With your permission, we would like to conduct the drive at the following intersections: Mary Esther Cutoff and Highway 98 Mary Esther Cutoff and Beal Parkway Beal Parkway and Racetrack Road Beal Parkway and Green Acres Racetrack Road and Eglin Parkway We hope that you will approve and continue to support us in this very worthy community project. Respectfully yours, John P. Garvey Tootsie Roll Chairman Knights of Columbus Council #4444 “PRIDE OF THE PANHANDLE” 850-864-2588 Home 850-240-6657 Cell JPMustang65@Hotmail.com
