AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: May 20, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: John Hofstad
SUBJECT: Okaloosa County Roadway Functional Classification
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
BCC DISTRICT: ALL
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) maintains a
federally approved roadway Functional Classifications Map for all Florida Counties. This map is
updated every ten years and must be resubmitted for approval.
BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS: The FDOT has asked for the Okaloosa County BCC's
recommendation of the latest roadway Functional Classifications Map for Federal Highway
Administration's (FHWA) approval. This map is the official roadway functional classification
designations recognized by FHWA for funding considerations. The map is resubmitted by
FDOT and Counties on a ten year cycle for FHWA approval. However, changes or upgrades to
any given roadway can be submitted to FDOT at any time as this is an ongoing process.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove the most recent roadway Functional Classifications Map for
Okaloosa County as prepared by FDOT.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff requests the Board of County Commissioners accept and
recommend the updated map for submittal to and approval by FHWA.
