STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Century 21 WIMCO has requested permission to utilize Beasley
Park, Beach Accessway #7 and the Okaloosa County beach to have a 5k Beach Walk and
Cleanup.
BACKGROUND and ANALYSIS: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county
recreational areas, including parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks,
beaches, or recreational areas within Okaloosa County.
A request has been received from Charlie Wimberly, Jr. with Century 21 WIMCO to use Beasley
Park, Beach Accessway #7 and the Okaloosa County beach to have a 5k Beach Walk and
Cleanup. All proceeds are to benefit Goodwill Easter Seals of the Gulf Coast (GWES) and
monies raised will stay within Okaloosa and Walton counties. Approximately 50 to 99 people
are expected to participate. They will park at Beasley Park, be shuttled to Beach Accessway #7
and walk back to Beasley Park, picking up trash along the way. The event would take place
Saturday, August 20 from 7:15 A.M. to 12:00 noon. There will be no interference with beach
cleaning operations or permitted beach vendors.
This request has been reviewed by Public Works, Public Safety, the Sheriff’s Office, and the
Okaloosa Island Fire Department. Approvals have been collected from all the private beach
owners along the route.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove the permit request for Century 21 WIMCO to use Beasley
Park, Beach Accessway #7 and the Okaloosa County beach to have a 5k Beach Walk and
Cleanup.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the request for a Special Event permit for Beasley Park,
Beach Accessway #7 and the Okaloosa County beach to have a 5k Beach Walk and Cleanup as
submitted by Century 21 WIMCO, contingent upon receipt of original signed Hold Harmless
Agreement and fees.
