BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: June 7, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Stefan Vaughn SUBJECT: National School Lunch Program Grant DEPARTMENT: Corrections BCC DISTRICT: ALL STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request the Board of County Commissioners, authorization for the Clerk of the Court’s Contracts & Grants Office to submit an on-line grant renewal application to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for juvenile inmate meals, and to approve Amendment #3 of the established Wellness Policy, which revises the list of participating members. BACKGROUND: The Department of Corrections, in cooperation with Okaloosa County School Board, provides educational opportunities for juveniles and youthful offenders in accordance with FSS 951.176. As a result, the Department of Corrections is eligible to participate in the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, and Food Distribution Programs and to receive reimbursements for expenses related to meals for qualified juvenile inmates. These programs require annual renewals, and resulted in $22,639.29 in reimbursements and $461.31 in commodities during FY15. In accordance with NSLP grant requirements, a Wellness Policy and committee must be established prior to program participation in order to ensure and evaluate program compliance. Amendment#3 reflects a revised list of participant members. OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove RECOMMENDATIONS: Recommend the Board of County Commissioners authorize the Chairman to review, approve and sign the on-line grant renewal application submission documents, as well as all future grant documents during the term of the grant. Request the Board authorize the Clerk's Contracts & Grants office to submit the agreement, the on-line renewal application, and all other on-line grant documents during the term of the grant.
