Item #7 —- PUBLIC EVENT PERMIT REQUEST BY SPECIAL FORCES ASSOCIATION CHAPTER 7 FOR JINGLE BELL JOG/RUN Mr. Parisot stated his concerns with this request are the timing of the event (December 13, 7am until 1 pm) and closure of two lanes of Highway 98 on Okaloosa Island. He pointed out this is during the Christmas shopping season and approval to close a state roadway must be given by FDOT. Mr. Parisot said he sees November 4, 2014 -9- Minute Book 72, Page 44 Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners nothing in the package to indicate the group has secured the POOT’s approval to close the roadway or that there has been communication with local law anforcement. Re felt approval of this request is premature and made motion to table consideration until the Nevember 418, 2014 meeting. Yoon inquiry by Mr. Harris, Mx. Hofstad stated the burden of securing these approvals is on the applicant. Re added the county does not support closure of Highway 98. Mr, Hofstad said he feels approval by FDOT is highly unlikely and believes a more suitable route would be Santa Rosa Boulevard. Mr. Hofstad stated he has discussed permit requests with staff, noting requests for use of parks are made in the Public Works Department ard other permit requests are submitted to the BCC Office. He expressed concern ahout being consistent and he is looking at having one clearinghouse for all public event permit requests Mr. Boyles asked if the Board is approving the closure of Highway 98 LE it approves this permit. Mr. Hofstad replied in the reqative. He @explained there is a checklist and the event cannot be held without completion of the requirements. Mr, Harris seconded Mr. Pariset's motion to table until November 18. 4 yeas. (Me. Windes was not present.) Mr. Kampert stated prior to expiration of the grant, staff requested and received @ one-year extension by FROT. However, because the original grant was approved by the Board, if is mecessary for the Board to authorise the extension as well and to execute the task order with oOcT. Mr. Eampert requested approval of the agenda item, noting this includes retroactive appreval to Ooteber 1, 2044. Mr. Parisot made motion, seconded by Mr. Amunds, to approve this agenda item. 4 yeas.
