Request For An Attorney General Opinion The City Attorney requests Council' s approval to seek an Attorney General' s Opinion regarding the issue of utilizing City Police Department personnel to provide security services at the Northwest Florida Regional Airport. Discussion included whether there is a need for an Attorney General Opinion if there is an agreement between the county and the city. The City Attorney expressed his concern that the County would expect the City to have insurance coverage and would not want to see an issue arise where the City believed there was coverage but the insurance carrier said there was not. Council received clarification that approval from a governing body is required to receive a formal Attorney General opinion; that an informal opinion could be received with no action from Council. Dr. gossom moved to approve the City Attorney' s request to seek a formal Attorney General opinion regarding the City providing law enforcement services to the Northwest Florida Regional Airport. Mr. Nabors seconded motion. Mr. Goodwin amended the motion to request a formal Attorney General opinion regarding providing City services to surrounding municipalities and City requirements within its own city jurisdiction. Dr. gossom and Mr. Nabors accepted the amendment. The City Manager advised the City was contacted by the airport manager in good faith regarding the City providing services, and although the County has not yet approved anything they are aware of it and the City has not been advised to cease. The vote on the motion, as amended, to approve the City Attorney' s request to seek a formal Attorney General
