BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: April 5, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Stefan Vaughn SUBJECT: State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (FY16) DEPARTMENT: Corrections BCC DISTRICT: ALL STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to submit on-line grant application to the U.S. Department of Justice for the FY16 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program. BACKGROUND: State and Local units of government having authority over correctional facilities may apply for grant funding under the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) for undocumented criminal aliens who remain incarcerated or detained within these facilities for a minimum of four consecutive days. This annual grant has generated nearly $180,595 in revenue over the past eight years and is used to offset inmate medical expenses. OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove RECOMMENDATIONS: Recommend the Board authorize the Chairman to sign the U.S. Department of Justice grant application, sign and accept any subsequently awarded grant funds, and sign any associated grant documents required during the term. Additionally, recommend the Board authorize Contracts & Grants to submit the on-line application, along with any other associated grant documents required during the term.
