Subject: Resolution 2010 -14 — Authorization to Submit a New Project for Transportation
Enhancement Program Funding
1. BACKGROUND:
1. 1. New Transportation Enhancement Projects are accepted every other year to be
prioritized by the Okaloosa- Walton Transportation Planning Organization ( TPO) and
considered for funding by FDOT. The projects must be submitted along with a
supporting resolution from the City Council in order to be included on the priority list.
The deadline for new applications is May 21, 2010.

2. DISCUSSION:
2. 1. Bicycle and pedestrian transportation projects strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, and
environmental aspects of the City' s transportation system. Key bicycle and pedestrian
projects within the City are identified in the Fort Walton Beach Metropolitan Planning
Organization ( MPO) Urbanized Area Bicycle /Pedestrian Plan ( 2001) and the City of
Fort Walton Beach Eco Way ( 2010). Currently, there are no designated bike lanes within
the City.

2. 2. 1. Develop a City of Fort Walton Beach Bike Route from Yacht. Club Drive NE to
Brooks Street SE that includes a provision for bike lane signage, striping, and

forwarded to the Okaloosa- Walton TPO. The TPO will then rank the project according
to priority, and the project will be placed on the priority list for funding as funds become
available.
3. FINANCIAL INFORMATION:
3. 1. The resolution does not commit the City to any funding and provides an opportunity to
obtain state funding for transportation enhancement projects. The program is a 100%
reimbursable funding source through the FDOT.
