Student Award for Civic Excellence - January Awards
The City of F ort Walton Beach Student Award for Civic
Excellence is a new award started last November which will be
given to one student each month from Fort Walton Beach and
Choctawhatchee High Schools. The awards endeavor to recognize
outstanding student leaders who are actively involved in
government - especially within their school and this community.
Tonight we will honor two exceptional high school seniors for the
January Student Award for Civic Excellence - or, Student A.C. E.
Choctawhatchee High School Senior Leland Hollis is the current
President of CHS' s Octagon service club, Vice President of the
Minority Council, and Secretary of War Chiefs, which promotes
spirit at all the school's sports activities. Leland is also a member
of the Student Council and the National Honor Society. He has
already been voted into Choctawhatchee' s Hall of Fame!
Fort Walton Beach High School Senior Katie Liufau is the 12th
Grade Class Vice President; President of the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes; Beta Club Vice President; and, the Secretary,
Treasurer and Historian of the Inner Club Council. She was also a
Volleyball Team Captain in both 11th and 12th grades. Last year,
Katie was honored by Governor Bush as the 2005 Governor' s All-
Star Award Winner for Okaloosa County. This award is presented
to only one student in each of Florida' s counties.
I could go on and on about the accomplishments of these students,
but needless to say, they are stars in our community and I am
privileged to honor them tonight.
Congratulations to both of you!
