General Project Information
Project Title: OFFICER SAFETY ENHANCEMENT
Subgrant Recipient: Okaloosa County Board of Commissioners
Implementing Agency: Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office
Project Start Date: 10/1 /2015 End Date: 9/30/2016
Problem Identification
Deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office SWAT team respond to high-risk incidents
involving armed, violent offenders. This type of response requires specialized equipment not
utilized by normal patrol officers, to include heavy ballistic vests. These heavy ballistic vests
enhance officer safety by providing greater protection against attacks via firearm. The heavy
ballistic vests utilized by our SWAT team were previously purchased with federal grant funds and
are approaching their end-of-life and need to be replaced . Without these vests SWAT officers are
extremely vulnerable and are at greater risk of death or injury during tactical operations.
Project Summary (Scope of Work)
This project will provide replacement vests to sustain the capability of Okaloosa County Sheriff's
Office SWAT team members to respond more safely to incidents involving firearms .
