The Cities of Fort Walton Beach, Mary Esther, and

elementary, 2 middle and 1 high school).
The 2004 population of this CSA was 47, 156 persons housed in 29, 105 dwelling units.
This service area is expected to increase by 8, 177 persons and 4, 653 dwelling units by
2025. ( Okaloosa- Walton TPO) ( Table 10) Public school enrollment in CSA 5 was 6, 420

Problems & Opportunities
Currently, there is one school operating at over 100% of permanent capacity. It is Destin
Middle School at 105% of capacity (Table 7) There are existing and projected facility
surpluses and deficiencies within concurrency service areas. To meet class size
contingencies and to reduce the use of relocatable facilities the following enhancements
are included as funded projects in the Work Program:
Mary Esther Elementary— classroom additions ( permanent and relocatables)
Florosa Elementary— classroom additions ( relocatables)
No additional land is required and supporting infrastructure is adequate to support these
enhancements ( EAR). No additional ancillary facilities will be required to support the 5-
Year Facilities Work Program for projects in CSA 6. The School District owns no vacant
land in this CSA.
The Okaloosa Comprehensive Plan pledges to encourage the co- location of County
public facilities, such as parks, libraries, and community centers, with schools to the
extent possible. These established and built out communities in CSA 6 have schools
that serve as community focal points.
According to the 2007 Facilities Work Program student station capacity is to be added in
CSAs 3, 4, 5 and 6 in this CSA. These include 38 student stations in relocatables at
Mary Esther Elementary, 114 student stations in relocatables at Florosa Elementary.
