The Florida League of Cities will support legislation that re-
moves the legislative cap on fund distributions from the Sadowski
Trust Funds and expands trust fund usage to include mobile home
park purchase, rehabilitation. and relocation costs.
Civics in Florida' s K -12 Education
The .Florida League of Cities will support Legislation that in-
cludes civics in the current K -12 social studies curriculum as a
unit of class instruction and provides for a form of assessment.
Commuter Rail
The.:Florida League of Cities will support legislation that estab-
Iishes' a commuter rail system. in_Central Florida linking. regional
popu ation centers, provided that no costs of the system are man-
dated to municipal governments. Such legislation must ensure that .
any agreement. be negotiated in a transparent manner with partici-
pation affected municipal governments. Support of this system
is. based on the idea that it will be the catalyst for commuter rail
systems statewide. The goal is to create a comprehensive trans-
portation network that includes a strategy for both commuter rail
and freight, maximizing use of existing infrastructure. A dedicated
funding source should be implemented by the Legislature to fund
commuter rail statewide.
