VISITOR - JUDGE WILLIAM STONE, TASK FORCE FOR RENOVATION OF
OKALOOSA COUNTY COURTHOUSE IN CRESTVIEW
Judge William Stone, Administrative Judge, referred to the valuable
insight and recommendations of the task force for the construction
of the Courthouse Annex Extension in Fort Walton Beach. He
suggested the same type planning be used for short-term, mid-term,
and long-term planning for the Okaloosa County Courthouse in
Crestview. Judge Stone felt input from all stakeholders and private
citizens for renovation of the Courthouse will be valuable and
productive.
Judge Stone stated the meetings of the task force will be
advertised and recorded, ensuring absolute transparency. He noted
there are some challenges in the renovation which must be overcome.
Judge Stone noted there are three full-time judges (Judges Flowers,
Ketchel, and Ward) in Crestview. Upon inquiry by Mr. Amunds, Judge
Stone stated Family Court cannot be moved to South County.
Continuing, he explained the history of the Administrative
Directive designating that cases are filed based on the
individual’s residency or where the event took place.
Mr. Harris volunteered to serve as the Board’s representative on
this task force. Mr. Amunds made motion, seconded by Mr. Roberts,
to approve the formation of a task force for renovation of the
Crestview Courthouse with Mr. Harris serving as the Board’s
representative. Mr. Curry pointed out a list has been submitted of
the officers or their representatives to serve on this committee:
