BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: November 18, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Jason Autrey
SUBJECT: Appointment of TPO Representatives
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: With the seating of new Commissioners and a recent
reapportionment of sitting members of the Okaloosa-Walton Transportation Planning
Organization, the Board of County Commissioners is requested to select four (4) of the sitting
Commissioners to serve as representatives for Okaloosa County.
BACKGROUND: The Okaloosa-Walton Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is the
local, intergovernmental transportation policy board for Okaloosa and Walton counties in
Florida. The board is comprised of local government officials who make decisions regarding
transportation at the regional level. The Okaloosa-Walton TPO is required by federal and state
legislation to establish a continuing, cooperative and comprehensive planning process. The TPO
also works to increase safety, security, accessibility, mobility and connectivity for people and
goods.
The TPO meets approximately every other month and Okaloosa County is allotted four (4)
sitting council members to serve as representatives. Staff is seeking the appointments by the
Board of County Commissioners so that the West Florida Regional Planning Council (the state
entity responsible for managing the TPO) can prepare an orientation for all members. The
orientation is scheduled for the next TPO meeting; November 21st, at the Destin City Hall
Annex.
REQUEST: Provide staff with the four (4) appointed County Commissioners to serve as
representatives for Okaloosa County on the TPO.
