BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: November 4, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Jason Autrey
SUBJECT: Request to advertise RFB for Jail Parking Lot Repair
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
BCC DISTRICT: One
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Bid documents for this project are currently being routed through
the internal review process. Public Works is prepared to administer the construction and
inspections phase of the project. Therefore, approval from the Board of County Commissioners
is being requested to begin the advertisement process.
BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS: In April 2014, a major overnight storm event caused
significant damage to much of Okaloosa County’s roadway and drainage infrastructure. One of
the sites most heavily damaged was the parking area of the Okaloosa County Department of
Corrections Facility. The County tasked Avcon, Inc. to perform the survey and design
documents needed for repairs for this site. Construction plans have been completed and the bid
documents and specifications are currently being reviewed.
The cost of these repairs will be 75% funded by direct reimbursement through FEMA’s declared
“State of Emergency” for this storm event. Other funding will include a 12.5% direct
reimbursement from the State of Florida leaving the County responsible for the remaining 12.5%
of the total construction cost. The construction estimate for this project submitted by Avcon, Inc.
is stated as $148,518.00. The 12.5% County portion of the total project cost is approximately
$18,565.00.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove authorization to advertise the RFB for the Department of
Corrections Parking Lot Repair.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve authorization to advertise the RFB for the Department of
Corrections Parking Lot Repair.
