From: Stacy K. Roberts To: Rick Owen Cc: Cathy White; Karen Rossi Subject: Drug Court Proclamation - November 5, 2013 BCC Meeting Date: Thursday, October 24, 2013 2:53:13 PM Attachments: Proclamation - November 2013 Drug Court Month.doc Good afternoon Mr. Owen. Attached is a Proclamation declaring the month of November be Drug Court Month for Chairman Amunds’ signature at the November 5, 2013, Board of County Commissioners meeting. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Okaloosa County Adult Drug Court Program. We are holding a special event to celebrate the achievements of the Drug Court Program and honor our graduates. The 20-Year Celebration and Graduation event will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013, at the Okaloosa County Courthouse Annex Extension beginning at 2:30pm in Jury Assembly. The Okaloosa County Drug Court Program is a partnership between the courts, the Okaloosa County Department of Corrections, Pretrial Release Program, Office of the State Attorney, Office of the Public Defender, and Pathway Addiction Treatment Center, a component of Lakeview Center, Inc. The primary goal of the Drug Court Program is to provide immediate and concerted treatment to the drug offender. This program is a twelve month, three phase approach to substance abuse. It encompasses the vocation, education, and spiritual components in conjunction with providing substance abuse treatment. This program also provides early intervention and serves as a meaningful alternative to incarceration for the offender who can adequately function in the community with support. It is the goal of this program to realize a reduced recidivism rate for those offenders who successfully complete the program. This, in turn, will provide the offender the basis to build upon to become a productive member of our community.
