BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: October 1, 2013 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: John Hofstad SUBJECT: Kervin Road - Project Modification Recommendation DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: Three STATEMENT OF ISSUE: In consideration of recent materials contracts being re-bid, staff believes that this project could be improved by adding base material and asphalt millings to the scope of the project. This will improve the function of the roadway, reduce maintenance costs and improve water quality of the runoff from the roadway. BACKGROUND: The Public Works Roads Division develops an annual 5-year Capital Improvement Program Budget for roads in Okaloosa County. Funds were allocated for this project based on a design concept and estimated materials cost for the project. Based on recent bids received for base materials and asphalt millings, staff believes that significant improvements can be made to the project for a modest increase in funds. The original budget for the project was $100,000. Staff is recommending an increase in budget to $117,000 (which includes a 10% contingency in this instance). Additional funds will be used to incorporate a limestone base with asphalt millings in lieu of the previously planned clay driving surface. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove. RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends approval of the modification to the project as proposed. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: Ernie Padgett, County Administrator
