Okaloosa County BOCC — April 7, 2015 — 4-7 National County Government Month

P ROCLAMATION WHEREAS, counties move America forward by building infrastructure, maintaining roads and bridges, providing health care, administering justice, keeping communities safe, running elections, managing solid waste, keeping public records and much more; and WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties’ Theme for National County Government Month is “Counties Moving America Forward: The Keys are Transportation and Infrastructure,” and WHEREAS, the Okaloosa County Commission recently held a strategic planning workshop to focus on infrastructure, economic development and the customer, and WHEREAS, Okaloosa County takes pride in its responsibility to protect and enhance the health, welfare and safety of its residents in efficient and cost-effective ways; and WHEREAS, to ensure that local communities remain healthy, vibrant, safe and economically competitive, America’s coun- ties provide key transportation and infrastructure services empowering citizens in everything from their daily commute to manufacturing and shipping goods around the world; and WHEREAS, Okaloosa County celebrates 100 years of history in 2015, and currently serves 35,000 Water and Sewer Cus- tomers, maintains 54 parks, services 650 miles of roads and 73 bridges; residential and commercial construction projects for FY2015 are valued at $80 million to date; tourism is up 22 percent, airports are up 6 percent for the year, and more; and WHEREAS, today we welcome Mr. William D. Landreth, Okaloosa County Commissioner from 1962 to 1971, and who is the sole surviving commissioner recognized on the dedication plaque of the Okaloosa County Courthouse in Crestview. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Okaloosa County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaims April 2015 as “NATIONAL COUNTY GOVERNMENT MONTH” In Okaloosa County and encourages all county officials, employees, schools and residents to participate in county government celebration activities.
