BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: May 5, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Jason Autrey SUBJECT: Special Event Permit - Homes for Heroes Volleyball Tournament DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: Two STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Emerald Coast Association of Realtors in conjunction with the Military Outreach Committee has requested permission to utilize county beach area to conduct a one day volleyball tournament to raise funds for Homes for Heroes. BACKGROUND and ANALYSIS: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county recreational areas, including parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks, beaches, or recreational areas within Okaloosa County. A request has been received from the Emerald Coast Association of Realtors to conduct a one day volleyball tournament at the Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island. The event is to raise funds to benefit the Homes for Heroes structure that will be built for a selected veteran by Randy Wise Homes. The event would take place Sunday, June 14th between the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Up to 99 competitors are expected to participate. This request has been reviewed and approved by Public Works, Public Safety, the Sheriff’s Office and the lessee at the Boardwalk. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the request for a Special Event permit for the Homes for Heroes volleyball tournament to be held on the County beach adjacent to the Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island as submitted by Emerald Coast Association of Realtors.
