STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Seeking approval to reject the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)
Roll-Off Truck Re-Bid (RECY 30-14) and bid a conventional roll-off truck.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: The Public Works Department, Recycling Division requested
a bid for a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) 66,000 pound gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR)
roll-off truck. The bids were opened on September 3, 2014 and 4 (four) bids were received. The
bids for the CNG truck came in much higher than originally anticipated. The Recycling Division
has requested that all bids be rejected due to the cost of the CNG truck. The higher capital
investment on the truck and the anticipated fueling station requirement prohibits making the
investment justifiable. The Recycling Division has requested to re-bid the truck as a conventional
roll-off.
OPTIONS: Approve/Deny rejection of all CNG truck bids and re-bid as a conventional roll-off
truck.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Board approve rejection of all CNG truck bids
and re-bid as a conventional roll-off truck.
