CITY COUNCIL MEETING
November 10, 2009
Discussion - Direction - Action
Action: Request from the NWF Fairgrounds, to reconsider
rent amount.
Synopsis:
C.H. "Bull" Rigdon and other Fair Board Members will be
in attendance
Agenda Item Number: 901
CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA
MEMORANDUM
Office of the City Manager
DATE: November 4, 2009
TO: Honorable Mayor and Council Members
FROM: Robert T. Mearns, City Manager y/
SUBJECT: Fairgrounds Request For Rent eduction
1. Backgo
1. 1. C.H. `Bull" Rigdon has requested that the City Council reconsider the amount paid to
the city in rent. Currently, the Fairgrounds pays the city a base rent of five percent
5 %) of gross revenues per quarter, but not less than $6,250 per quarter, and the gross
revenue does not include the annual Fair.
1. 2 City staff has provided a report ( attached) that reflects the information given to the
city to verify the Fair' s gross revenues for rent assessment. To reach the minimum
payment of $6, 250 the Fair would have to generate at least $ 125, 000 per quarter in
gross revenue or $ 500, 000 per year. However, as the Fairgrounds has never reached
or exceeded that amount, they have consistently paid the City $ 6,250 each quarter.
For 2007, the Fair grossed $ 77,281. 75. In 2008 the Fair grossed $ 108, 246.45. For
2009 thus far the Fair has grossed $ 60,322. 51.
