BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: September 2, 2014 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: John Hofstad SUBJECT: Special Event Permit - Shalimar United Methodist Block Party DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: Two STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Shalimar United Methodist Church is requesting the use of Shalimar / Port Dixie Park for a community block party. BACKGROUND: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county recreational areas, including parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks, beaches or recreational areas within Okaloosa County. A request was received from the Shalimar United Methodist Church Outreach Team to use a portion of Shalimar / Port Dixie park for a picnic and movie on the lawn with other associated activities available free to the community. They have held similar events at the park the last four years. The Playground Area Soccer Association (PASA) has a Lease / Maintenance Agreement with the County for the use of the park and has agreed they can accommodate this request with their schedule. The use of electrical power for the movie will be provided at the park. Expected attendance is up to 250 people. In accordance with approved BCC policy, the Special Event fees have been waived due to the non-profit status of Shalimar United Methodist Church. All required documentation has been provided. OPTIONS: Approve / Disapprove RECOMMENDATIONS: Request Board approval for a Special Event Permit to utilize Shalimar / Port Dixie Park for a community block party as submitted by Shalimar United Methodist Church.
