Dear Mayor Anderson,
On MondaYi Jury 13; 2009, while in regular session, the Crestview City Council adopted a
resolution supporting the resumption of Amtrak service through the Florida panhandle. The
council- also indicated its-pref rence- by Mr. Tom Stennis, Director of
of three options provided -
Government Affairs - South, National Railroad Passenger Corporation, located in New Orleans.
The three options for the resumption of passenger rail service were prioritized by the council in
Qrder of preference for those routes that would be most beneficial for the City of Crestview and
for citizens of our county and nearby municipalities. This ,resolution will be forwarded to our
national legislators including Senator Bill Nelson, Senator Mel Martinez, and Congressman Jeff
M'iller. We will encourage thos'e senators' and congressman to vigorously lobby in our behalf for
the option that we. have.endorsed.
It would be favorable for this entire area if all our local governmental agencies would endorse
the plan that provides .for stand- alone daily service from New Orleans to Orlando with a local
stop in the City of Crestview. I have enclosed the various options provided by Mr. Stennis in the
order of preference by the Crestview City Council. I respectfully request that you present this
proposai to the Fort Walton City Council at your earliest convenience and if adopted, to send
your endorsement of the proposal to the above named senators and congressman for their
consideration.
Sincerely,
David Cadle
Mayor""
