BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: February 4, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Kay Godwin
SUBJECT: RFP for Employee Dental, Life and Long Term Disability Insurance
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Risk Management seeks authorization to issue a request for
proposals for employee dental, life and long term disability insurance.
BACKGROUND: Employee dental insurance is currently provided by United Concordia
Insurance Company. Symetra Life Insurance Company provides employee life and long term
disability insurance. These contracts were entered into effective 10/1/2012 in response to a
request for proposal. Changes in the dental coverage have resulted in some employee
dissatisfaction. Bidding all three products together should result in more favorable rates.
The county currently pays for employee dental coverage, $25,000 of employee life coverage and
employee long term disability. Annual expenditures for the county paid portion of these benefits
are approximately $270,000.
We suggest the following selection committee be appointed:
Gary R. Real - Risk Management
Dave Parisot - County Commissioner liaison
Brenda Hooks - Human Resources
Representative - Clerk of Circuit Court
Representative - Property Appraiser
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the issuance of a Request for Proposals for employee
dental, life and long term disability insurance, and approve selection committee members.
