STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request ratification of a change order in the amount of $5,300 for
Welcome Center trim painting, Floridian Construction contract C15-2299-TDD.
BACKGROUND: RFB TDD 16-15 for Welcome Center Exterior Siding, Soffit, and Painting
was awarded to Floridian Construction & Development in the amount of $55,750. A change
order in the amount of $2,889 was approved for installing insulation around windows and doors
where it was discovered during the course of siding replacement that no insulation existed.
A second change order was needed to re-prime and re-paint the poles and trim. The original
selection of reddish-brown trim color looked terrible against the new cream and chocolate brown
siding and turquoise roof. The clash with the new roof and siding was not fully apparent until
the job was complete. Instead of leaving an unsatisfactory finish to a very good project, the
color was changed and the vendor authorized to re-prime and re-paint the poles and trim with a
color that matches the roof and provides a relaxing, beach feel rather than log cabin feel. The
cost to re-prime and re-paint the poles and trim was $5,300, thereby bringing the contract total to
$63,939. Budget funds are available for this change order.
In accordance with the Purchasing Manual, Board approval is required when the cumulative total
of change orders exceeds the original contract price by 10%. Since the work has already been
completed, staff requests Board ratification of the $5,300 change order.
OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove
RECOMMENDATION: Ratify a change order in the amount of $5,300 for Welcome Center
trim painting, Floridian Construction contract C15-2299-TDD, and authorize Chairman to sign
the change order.
