BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: March 18, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Elliot Kampert
SUBJECT: Transit Assistance Request Letters to Municipalities
DEPARTMENT: Growth Management
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Board of County Commissioners must decide whether to
authorize the chairman to sign and send the attached letters to the municipalities requesting
assistance with transit funding.
BACKGROUND: As the Board of County Commissioners begins the development of the FY
2015 budget, it needs to know whether and to what extent the municipalities are willing and able
to assist with the funding of the public transit system. The attached letters advise the cities'
mayors that without financial assistance the County will not be able to continue to fund the
transit system as it now exists, and also advises them that city and county staff have been
working on a memorandum of agreement and funding methodology that will soon be presented
to the local League of Cities.
OPTIONS: Approve or not approve the letters.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners
authorize the Chairman to sign the attached letters, and that the letters be sent to the
municipalities.
