STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of amendment to optional vision insurance policy
with Standard Insurance Company.
BACKGROUND: To ensure compliance with new Federal health care laws, on June 17, 2014,
the Board approved a change to the employee waiting period for insurance from the first of the
month following 90 days of employment to the first of the month following 30 days of
employment. For ease of administration, we are making the waiting periods consistent for all
group insurance products effective October 1, 2014. Standard Insurance requires a signed
amendment to update the waiting period for their policy.
The vision insurance premiums are paid entirely by employees with no cost to the county, and it
is completely optional. The Vision contract was renewed by the Board on August 5, 2014.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove
RECOMMENDATIONS: Authorize the Chairman to sign the contract amendment for the
Standard Insurance vision policy to change the waiting period from the first of the month
following 90 days, to the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
