The county recently assisted our program by donating two decommissioned county transit busses to the Sheriff’s Office for the purpose of transporting our Explorers to community events throughout Okaloosa County. These busses have logistically simplified transporting up to as many as 30 young adults to numerous events such as festivals, sporting cvents, and other functions. With that said, we are very appreciative of the support you and your staff have provided us. Recently during a conversation with Okaloosa County Department of Corrections Major Stefan Vaughn, he indicated the jail recently issued new portable radios to their corrections staff. Major Vaughn has approximately 20 Motorola portable radios they would be interested in donating to the Explorers if we could utilize them. We have researched the compatibility of these radios to find they will work with our current radio system and we also have staff that can maintain and program them as well. It is my hopes that you will agree to the allocation of these portable radios to the Sheriff’s Office where they will be used by our Sheriff’s Explorers program.
