BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: June 7, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Ed Schroeder SUBJECT: RFP for deployment of artificial reef material DEPARTMENT: Tourist Development Department BCC DISTRICT: 2,4,5 STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for deployment of artificial reef material. BACKGROUND: The Tourist Development Department has received a grant for $60,000 (FWC-15097) to put approximately 40 pre-fabricated artificial reef units in Fish Haven 13. The grant expires in August 2016. Artificial reefs provide ecological and economic benefits to Okaloosa County, and an additional artificial reef in Fish Haven 13 would be ideal for both fishing and diving. The following three RFP review committee members are proposed: Public Works Program Manager, Marine Economic and Tourist Resource Development Coordinator, and Coastal Management Coordinator. The Purchasing Department will coordinate the process and serve as a facilitator for meetings of the review committee. OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove RECOMMENDATION: Issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for deployment of artificial reef material and appoint the aforementioned members of the review committee.
