RE: Council Seat III / Vacancy of Dennis Reeves
Dear Mayor and City Council:
Please consider this letter to be my formal request for your consideration for the upcoming vacancy
of Council Seat III held by Mr. Dennis Reeves.
I have lived in the greater Fort Walton Beach area for my entire life other than college and law
school. I currently reside within the City of Fort Walton Beach and work within the City as an
attorney in a small locally owned law firm. I have had many dealings with the city both in a
personal and business capacity. Until recently my wife, Michelle Mead, was an employee of the
City.
It is for these and many other reasons that I have a vested interest in the well being of the City of
Fort Walton Beach. Furthermore, I have a substantial amount experience dealing with the various
employees and divisions of Fort Walton Beach.
My familiarity with the personnel and the workings of the City will make for a more seamless
transition into Seat III and will also make me a more effective City Councilman.
I request that you place my name on the list of candidates for the upcoming selection for Council
Seat III.

RE: Letter of Interest for Appointment to the Position of City Clerk, FWB City Council
Robert B. Thetford, Jr.

To Whom It May Concern:
I have lived in Fort Walton Beach since 2000 and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to
serve my community by participating in the city government. I am educated, have served in the U. S.
military, am an active member of the community, and am a family man with children and grandchildren
in the local area. Not only do I have a vested interest in the issues facing our area, but I also have the
time to serve because I am retired. Please consider my interest and self introduction,
- and choose me to
fill a position on the City Council of Fort Walton Beach.
I was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on October 11, 1943. My family moved to Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania for eleven years, and I graduated from high school there. During the Vietnam War, I was
drafted into the Army in Jane of 1965 and separated in June of 1967. While in the military, I was
stationed in Georgia, Texas, and Florida, during which time I graduated from military police training
and served as a sentry dog handler on a Florida missile site.
I had attended University of Memphis ( Memphis State University at the time) and then part-time
at Temple University in Philadelphia before I was drafted. I returned to University of Memphis and
graduated in December of 1973 with a B. S. in secondary education, later completing course work for a
minor in criminal justice.

After my separation from the military, Ijoined the Memphis Police Department where I worked
for 30 years, retiring in 1997 with the rank of captain. I have also been a part-time contractor for the past
40 years, previously licensed in Tennessee and currently holding a Certified Florida Residential
Contractor license.

My first wife passed away in 1998 from cancer after almost 31 years of marriage. We had a son i
and a daughter, both of whom live here in Fort Walton Beach now. My present wife, Christine, and I
met after she, too, had lost her husband after 30 years of marriage. We had both moved here to be near
our children, met in Fort Walton Beach, and have been married for 10 years this month. My son owns a
local dry wall company, and his wife, my daughter -in -law, as well as my own daughter are both teachers
in Okaloosa County Schools. My grandsons attend public school in Fort Walton Beach, as well. My
wife' s children now live in Texas and California, but her daughter and son -in -law lived in Fort Walton
Beach for almost 5 years while her son -in -law was a test pilot stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. My
stepdaughter and her husband now both work at Edwards AFB in California as a contract chemical
engineer and a test pilot instructor respectively.
I am active in my local church as a choir member and Sunday school teacher and helped for
several years in the church' s homeless outreach. I have had an opportunity to see every segment of our
community, to have personal connections with our military, our local school system, and the local
construction and housing industry. I have a vested interest in the issues facing our community because
my children and grandchildren are here, and I want to make it a better place not just for me but for them.
I would ask for serious consideration by the City Council for this appointment. I am confident that I will
be able to serve this community with integrity and openness.
Sincerely, • /(, /
