Current Issues and Challenges
1. Police Department Accreditation Assessment - From April 5th - 7th, the Police
I
Department is undergoing an accreditation process with the Commission for
Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation. This is a voluntary process which is a
highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. To achieve
I
accreditation status, the department is required to comply with over 270
standards, many of which are critical to life, health and safety issues. If the Police
Department becomes accredited, it will be the only local law enforcement agency
I
in Okaloosa County to achieve this milestone.
2. Retention of police officers.
