II. Golf Club
The City of Fort Walton Beach offers quality golfing serVices through the Fort Walton
III
Beach Golf Club. Fort Walton Beach Golf Club consists of two championship I8-hole
golfcourses. The Pines Course has a challenging layout of over 6, 800 yards through a
tree- lined, upland pine forest. The Oaks course offers over 6, 400 yards of narrow
fairways, water hazards and fairways lined with oak trees. There are two leased
operations providing outstanding services for players of all ages and levels. Edwin Watts
Golf Shop is a full service, well-stocked golf supplies store. Two Trees Restaurant
provides excellent food and beverages to golfers and Clubhouse visitors. In addition to
daily play, the club holds many com unity-oriented charity golf tournaments and
III promotes a Junior Golf Program every summer with free clinics.
Goals and Objectives
Promote additional play during off-peak hours through email, internet, television,
and newspaper promotions, as well as packages through area hotel and
condominium associations.
IiIIIt Encourage play at all ages and levels by implementing monthly tournaments,
chapter and section events, and high school and collegiate tournaments.
Improve drainage around greens by cutting a trench and installing four-inch
perforateddrain pipe surrounded by gravel to carry the excess water to a swale or
drain pit out of the playing area.
Begin a tree planting program to replace trees that have been lost over the years to
insects, storms, old age, etc. using species native to Northwest Florida and that
will complement existing trees.
Create new landscape beds in various locations throughout the courses using
native plant material that will add beauty to the courses and require minimal care.
Golf Club Current Issues and Challenges
1. Revenue sufficiency to fund operations, debt service and capital outlay and capital
projects.
2. Maintain current course conditions.
3. On- going fee structures inequities - fees for walkers don' t cover the cost to
produce a round of golf.
4. Future capital outlay and improvements.
