Okaloosa County Environmental Council “Thinking Globally, Acting Locally” ENVIRONMENTAL 1540 Miracle Strip Pkwy SE oO COUNCIL Ft. Walton Beach FL 32548 RECEIVED Phone 850-651-7131 Fax 850-651-7149 JAN 2 8 2013 Okaloosa County FL Okaloosa County Board of Commissioners Chairman Don Amunds, District 4 1804 Lewis Turner Bivd, Ste 100 Fort Walton Beach FL 32547 Honorable Chairman Amunds and Board of County Commissioners: As Chairman of the Okaloosa County Environmental Council (OCEC), I wish to apply for the Restore Act Citizens Committee as the representative of the environmental community. The OCEC was founded by the Okaloosa County Board of Commissioners in 1987 as a volunteer citizen organization dedicated to the preservation of our natural environment. Membership is open to all Okaloosa County citizen volunteers. Our activities include biannual beach cleanups; Adopt-a-County-Road and Adopt-a-Dune anti-litter programs; Okaloosa Aqualab water testing of 21 sites in Choctawhatchee Bay in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and EPA, and numerous environmental education projects. We are an active agency funded by the County through the Tourist Development Department. We have established a network of organizations and volunteers that are ready to provide manpower and feedback in support of Restore Act funding and activities in Okaloosa County. We currently meet on a monthly basis, providing visibility plus accountability. OCEC is the logical choice to represent environmental interests with regard to the Restore Act in our community. See our Okaloosa Environmental Council website on Facebook and at http: / /www.co.okaloosa.fl.us/environmental.html Contact me if any additional information is needed.
