Dear Mr. Kampert:
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dave Dokken the President of the Board of Directors for Regatta
Bay Homeowners Association. I have been a resident of the Regatta Bay community for over 15 years and have
witnessed the maturation and growth of our community and the surrounding areas. I commend you and your fellow
commissioners for having the foresight to approve the implementation of the proposed “Linear Park” stretching
from the Gulf of Mexico to the Choctawhatchee Bay. This is the type of planning that creates vibrant and active
communities. This environment will be appreciated and utilized by our Regatta Bay residents as well as the
community-at-large. My understanding is that you and the Commissioners will be considering the Linear Park and
an Open Container Ordinance for Regatta Bay and surrounding areas. Both the park and open container issues are
all features that add benefits and quality of life to our community. This allows residents to live, shop, dine, recreate
and enjoy our land and water environment all without ever leaving the Greater Regatta Bay Property.
The major factors to be considered when the Linear Park and the Open Container Ordinance are voted on are:
. The golf course of Regatta Bay has always had open container with no problems. The course basically
meanders through the entire development including serving hole #12 and the cart path located across
Legendary Marina Drive from the Destin Middie School.
. The new Linear Park trail connecting Destin Commons and the Choctawhatchee Bay will make is very
convenient to walk, ride bicycles, drive golf carts and electric cars from our homes to the varied restaurants,
shopping and marina complex without the normal concerns of being on the public roads that surround
Regatta Bay.
» We have confirmed that this authorization does not change any Okaloosa County setbacks requirements that
deal with the School. The current County Ordinance has an exception for Clubs and Restaurants with over
51% food sales. This is the type of establishment we have in the Regatta Bay Complex area which we
support.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Regatta Bay, T urge you and your fellow Commissioners to approve the
proposed Linear Park and Open Container Ordinances at your next meeting. If you or other commissioners would
like to discuss this further please call me at your convenience, my cell number is 850-585-2159.
Sinzely, &
Dave Dokken
