software . He said these tools will save time and money .
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Mr . Dave Sherry , Okaloosa Island , referred to a Public Works
agenda item seeking approval to submit applications to the
Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) for funding of
various sidewalk projects . One of those proposed projects is on
Santa Rosa Boulevard . He said two years ago the Public Works
Department constructed swales to prevent the flooding of Santa
Rosa Boulevard . Mr . Sherry expressed concern if the intent is
to fill in those swales and pointed out there is a sidewalk 50

feet north of the proposed sidewalk site . He said the area is
also landscaped , has large utility poles and fire hydrants .
Mr . Cal Zethmeyer , member of Crestview Centennial Committee ,
said it was good to see the City and County working together and
thanked the Board for its cooperation on the recent centennial
event . He suggested the Board donate the bricks to the
Crestview CRA when the old Piggly Wiggly building is torn down .
Mr. Zethmeyer said they could be used to refurbish the fa9ade of
buildings downtown .
Ms . Cathy Foster , Okaloosa Island , stated she is a member of the
Okaloosa Island Leaseholders Association (OILA ) and she is proud
of Jason Autrey for bringing forward the Santa Rosa Boulevard
sidewalk proposal . She advised the Board that the OILA supports
the grant application for this project .
Mr . Dave Hancock , President of the El Matador Association and
member of OILA , spoke in favor of the sidewalk project for Santa
Rosa Boulevard . He said they receive inquiries about walking
and biking paths , adding that eco-tourism is the wave of the
future . Mr . Hancock stated the Tourist Development Council
(TDC) has written a letter of support for the proposed sidewalk.
Upon inquiry by Mrs . Ketchel , Mr . Hancock confirmed the bike
path idea from Okaloosa Island to Destin has been discussed a
number of times before OILA . He added that since there are no
designs , objections seem premature .
Mrs. Rebecca Sherry , Okaloosa Island , voiced her opposition to
the proposal to seek FOOT funding for a sidewalk on Santa Rosa
Boulevard . She provided the commissioners with photographs
taken earlier in the day of the area where a sidewalk might be
constructed. Mrs. Sherry questioned the support from OILA for
the project , saying they did not have a quorum at the last
meeting .
Mrs . Sherry stated at a past meeting she told the Board that the
developer of the Fairfield Inn has not yet built the dune
walkover at the hotel although he has secured the necessary
permits .
