BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: June 18, 2013
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: John Hofstad
SUBJECT: Parks Advisory Committee Appointment (Bednar)
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: A proposed candidate for the Parks Advisory Committee.
BACKGROUND: The Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) adopted
Ordinance No. 13-07 regulating County Recreation Areas in January 2013. The operation of a
Parks Advisory Committee was included within this ordinance for the purpose of advising the
BOCC and Parks Division to improve various aspects of the county recreational system.
The members of the Parks Advisory Committee have been heavily involved in making parks and
recreation related recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners, doing research and
tapping their various contacts with the public to form these recommendations.
A vacancy was recently created by the resignation of Gerald Rush, who is the District 2 member
of the committee. Maryl Bednar from the unincorporated area of District 2 has submitted an
application to fill that vacancy. Her application is attached. Maryl Bednar served previously on
the committee until a reformat of the committee structure by the BOCC reduced the number of
members. Maryl is a frequent visitor to the Parks Advisory Committee meetings and is
passionate about our parks.
OPTIONS: Approve / Disapprove.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the appointment of Maryl Bednar as District 2
representative on the Parks Advisory Committee.
