BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: June 17, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Don Vanderhoek
SUBJECT: Approval to pay CSX Transportation Invoices
DEPARTMENT: Information Systems
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Board is requested to approve payment of two CSX
Transportation permit related invoices totaling $4,128.62.
BACKGROUND: In the Fall of 2013 we applied to CSX Transportation for a permit for CE&I
services for sub-grade HDD installation of 2” HDPE pipe to carry 96 count fiber optic cable
under CSX tracks in Crestview. The CSX permit process is multi-staged: an application and
non-refundable review fee are submitted; a license fee and insurance fees are submitted; and,
upon CSX approval, construction activities can begin. After complying with all permit
requirements, the permit was issued. As part of the construction activities CSX determined that
a flagman and an inspector were required. These services cannot be provided by any personnel
other than authorized CSX employees. We are presenting to the Board for payment approval
two invoices totaling $4,128.62 for flagman and inspector related charges. Funding is available
in the Telecommunications budget for payment of these two invoices.
OPTIONS: Approve/disapprove.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Board payment approval is requested in order to process payment
of two CSX Transportation invoices totaling $4,128.62 for flagman and inspector related charges
for fiber optic work under CSX tracks in Crestview.
