SUBJECT: Regal Air - Hangar Door Replacement DEPARTMENT: Airport BCC DISTRICT: ALL STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Airports Department is requesting the Board of County Commissioners approve an agreement for Regal Air to replace the hangar door to the County owned maintenance hangar at Destin Airport. BACKGROUND: In March 2013, the maintenance hangar door failed beyond repair and the Airport went for bid to replace the existing bi-fold door. One bid was received from Cathey Construction & Development in the amount of $148,900. It was later learned from Regal Air that the bi-fold type of door was not what they desired as it limited the ability to fully open, thus restricting the size of aircraft that can enter the hangar. In addition, Regal Air preferred a door that can be opened in sections, unlike the bi-fold type door. Regal Air has sent the Airports Department a proposed agreement requesting that they be reimbursed for up to the bid amount of $148,900 to replace the door with a sliding door and they will assume all associated maintenance and repairs of the door and will assure that the contractors will obtain all necessary permits and will be fully licensed, bonded and insured. OPTIONS: Approve, Reject, or Table RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve for Airports Department to reimburse Regal Air up to $148,900 to replace the existing bi-fold door to the County owned maintenance hangar at the Destin Airport.
